Weekly Unit Spotlight: Karti

Karti, the silver-haired archer, with a penchant for perfect shots. Her description:

A RESERVED ARCHER KNOWN FOR KEEPING GILL COMPANY, SHE SEES HIM AS THE FATHER SHE NEVER HAD, AS HE ADOPTED HER AND TRAINED HER INTO THE ARMY AFTER NOTING HER POTENTIAL. SHE IS DETERMINED TO PROVE HERSELF AS THE GREATEST SHARPSHOOTER IN ALL OF LYROUCHE, AND SHE NEVER STOPS TRYING TO SHOW GILL WHY HE WAS RIGHT ABOUT HER.
Karti is the only archer your team has for a long time. Eventually, Cris is presented as a more unorthodox sharpshooter, and Crystal is recruited as a sniper with fairly usable bases and a very useful personal skill, but until those later chapters, Karti is your only option as an offensive bow user and is a faithful and true-to-her-class archer. The pluses of utilizing her in battle:
  • An outlandishly high skill stat: Karti's skill growth is the most stand-out thing about her, which is quite fitting for an archer. It lies at a lofty 85%, meaning critical hits will become very familiar to her, and she will not disappoint in hit rate.
  • Good strength and speed: Her speed growth is 55%, and her strength is only 5 percent lower. While her attacks won't lack in power, her nice speed will assure double hits on many targets. Her luck also sits at a comfortable 45%, which allows a decent evasion rate.
  • Sharpshooter: Karti's personal skill, Sharpshooter, gives her an increased crit rate and hit rate (they are both boosted by 10), allowing her already sturdy hit rate to rise even higher. She also grants 5 points of crit and 10 points of hit to adjacent allies. Due to her natural attack range as an archer, this means targets she can't finish off can be finished off by adjacent close-range fighting allies and those allies will get the boost mentioned to potentially get the edge over the enemy.
  • Base stats: Karti's base stats are actually quite sound, allowing her to flourish on your main team for a while, possibly with her growths, this can make her an excellent unit even with a few RNG hindrances.
Karti also has a couple flaws:
  • The worst enemy phase unit in the game: Karti is an excellent offensive unit, and during player phase she may even be used as a ORKO machine, but when the enemy turn rolls around, Karti absolutely must be kept safe for the following reasons-
  1. Her HP stat: Her HP growth is at 20%. She starts with an HP base of 17, and it doesn't get better very quickly.
  2. Her defense and resistance: Her defense is at 30%, which is passable, but not reliable, and her base is 5, which destroys her chances of a meaningful defense stat unless the RNG blesses you. Her resistance is worse, at 15%, meaning she will be a liability when it comes to taking hits, physical or magical.
  3. Her weapon: The archer class is one of two first tier classes to use bows. Bows are accurate weapons that have an acceptable amount of might, but they cannot attack up close, which means that Karti, as an archer, not only will not take a hit well at all, but also cannot defend herself from close-up attackers until player phase, and therefore is almost totally vulnerable unless protected.
  • Reclass issues: Karti's reclass option is knight. While the class may fix a little bit of her issue with enemy phase due to their superb defense, Karti will have no experience with lances. She also will struggle in the beginning because her speed will drop upon class change and her movement will also be reduced, making it difficult for her to keep at the same pace as her allies. Despite the chance that she will grow more often in defense and HP, it is considered a wiser decision to keep Karti where she is, at least until her stats are high enough to sustain such stat drops as speed and movement.
Karti excels at player phase tactics, her strong offensive presence and distance from the opponent grants her the ability to abuse her powerful shots and dispatch a foe in the blink of an eye, whether it be with a critical hit or just because of a swift double attack. However, there is a hefty price to pay in utilizing Karti's stellar player phase; Karti must face enemy phase. She dreads the risk of being attacked, and can't counter against melee foes, causing her survival rates to plummet when attacked up close and requiring evasion to stay alive. Despite this obvious problem, Karti is one of the first units recruited, and this availability paired with her fabulous offensive growths makes her a solid unit.
